Introducing The Gimme Shelter One

Well, as you may have noticed we haven't made a lot of guitars here in Jookyland for the last year or so, so it is with great pleasure that we unveil The Gimme Shelter One, which is for the grooviest of good causes.

You can read more about the Whys HERE though, over on the Gimme Shelter Tour web site, but here we'll just talk geetars.

So from the top, it is a lovely resonant pine La Cabronita body, along with a maple/rosewood neck, all smothered in Mother of Jooky like nobody even dun done before.

The pickup is a Mojo Mojotron, hotter than vintage and matched with one of the Genius Ransley's wiring looms, is perfection. This is raw when you want it to be and soulfilled and all those other things I wish I could play like.

A Hipshot stainless steel bridge holds one end of the strings down, while Gotoh tuners hold the other and in between there is a brilliant pickguard made especially by Scratch-It. The first of many to appear on a Jooky, I fear.

So there we are - it is going off on tour and will be raffled, not sold. Lovely.

To be clear, The Gimme Shelter One is an utterly unique guitar, and there will never, ever, be another made. It is signed and numbered, entirely hand built and finished cooler than a slo-mo run across the pebbled beach at Portishead. There will genuinely never be another guitar like this and past experience suggests that it won’t be around for long.

So Close, Nah Nah Nah Nah Naaah

Well, it's taken a lot of drying (odd for only a couple of dozen coats of lizard-skinned paint), but the finish for The Gimme Shelter One is finally done.

I know, we still haven't got all the parts, but the uber coolio Mojo Pickups Hot Mojotron is in place along with the traditionally groovy wiring loom, and we even have a scratchplate and knobs.

What else really matters?

OK, tuners and a bridge wouldn't hurt, but give it time.

The idea of course is to have it earning some corn for Shelter by the time of the Guitar Show at Brum's Bungley Hall on 28/29th February, so err, there we are then.

You can still join in with all of the fun and be a tour date all by yourself.

Been Down So Long, This Feels Like Up To Me

Well, it has been so long since we did a bit of Mother of Jooky, I'd forgotten how much fun it can be.

There is still some work to go on The Gimme Shelter One, but despite the poorly lit fotos, it is looking pretty swish methinks.

Like snakeskin boots

So I Sat In My Room And Drew Up A Plan

Well, things-are-a-happening as far as The Gimme Shelter One and it's associated tour goes, so we figured that here in Jookyland we should get up from our des-res and, err, start. It's about time.

OK, so it isn't a major leap and I seem to have used a ropey camera, but what you may be able to make out here is the back of the guitar body, which has been stained a heritage cherry red (it was meant to be copper, so shhh) and then waxed to taste.

And wax tastes awful kids, we all know that now don't we?

As for what is next, well the top got the same stain, but as it is about to be smothered in oodles of creamilicious Mother of Jooky pearly paint, it wasn't of course waxed. Not even a little bit by accident as that would have been silly.

Every day is a winding road...

Remember The Tickled Pink One? Well, Here We Go Again...

Well, a few years ago The Tickled Pink One was sent around the country in a sponsored daisy-chain of a pass-the-parcel.

You can read all about it HERE if you don't remember.

Anyway, it looks like we'll be doing it again in 2016, with the Gimme Shelter Tour seeing the fine folks at The Fretboard Forum raising some money for Shelter.

This time we are limited to 25 people passing that there parcel, so if you are interested CLICK HERE and join the fun.

The guitar will be something swish, build pictures will come over the next few weeks :)

Coming Soon: The Gimme Shelter One

Well, it's been a while since something new was started, but it seems as though we have just a little something on the way. When it will be done, who knows, but all verily excitementish.

From the top, we've gone for a nice lightweight La Cabronita body. This is going to get the Mother of all Jookies Pearly top, dark stained rear (we've all been there) and a twist or two to keep things interesting.

The neck is the obvious lefty Strat neck, which will be fitted with Ye Olde Split Klusons, waxed and oiled finish-wise.

Bridge, is one of those vibrant lumps from Hipshot, which will make it ring-a-sing-song-sing.

As for the pickup, still a little undecided on that. It may prove to be a Mojo Pickups Overwound Mojotron, but Gold Foils always seem to sneak in when you least expect them, so who knows, things could change yet, and probably will.

Wiring, again it will be one of Marc at Mojo Pickups art installations, but we're thinking-the-thought that a Volume plus a three way switch rather than a tone knob could be cool. Something mayhem-lead anywaysup.

This will be The Gimme Shelter One, coming one day, soonish, maybe probably.

It's so nice to be able to say

Sold: The Violent Chameleon One

The Violent Chameleon One has taken a long old time, but finally made it and dare we say it was worth the wait? I think we may.

Built on the shoulders of giants, the body and long tenon attached (?) neck were hand made in the UK by the immensely genius-like Grahame Pollard.

From there it went west to the Wizard that is Richard Rendell for a unique (and he has sworn he will never do it again for many reasons) Violet Flake Nitrocellulose finish. This is crazing already on the top and is quite simply immense under the lights. There is no way in the world to capture the awesomeness of this finish in a foto, but it is like an over-active glitter-ball.

The pickup is one of Marc Ransley's famous Mojo P90s and roars, whilst he also supplied the wiring loom with top notch CTS pots, PIO cap and everything else, so that should last for decades too..

Hardware is cool. We decided against Sperzels in the end and went for the Kluson three-on-a-strip-of-metal originals, which work beautifully.

The wraparound bridge is from Faber and is aluminium, the  studs are from Mojotone, and the knobs are Gretsch stylee.

To say we're excited about this one is an understatement. Not least because it will no doubt be a while until the next.

All in all, this is a stunning looking guitar that plays beautifully and nails all of the classic tones.

So, Where Was I..?

Well, as I was saying, The Violent Chameleon One is likely to be the next to final Jooky-baby to be delivered, so seeing it glammed up courtesy to Rich-the-Paint at Randall's Restorations, was a nice trip..

From here it will have parts and then probably strings, but we'll see how it goes.

How long until it is nailed together is hard to say, but such is life..

SOLD: The Lonesome Pine One

The Lonesome Pine One is a rather stunning pine bodied Strat with one of our special Time Stained finishes.

From the top, we took a beautiful pine Strat body and inflicted our own mayhem upon it, minor wear, dinks and other bits, before we applied a beautiful stained and waxed finish. We wanted a vibrant and zingy rock machine, and that is exactly what we got.

The pickup is a stunning Mojo Pickups' Speedbump. Based on the lovely old Kay pickups this is raw and snarly - brilliant for slide, blues and a completely different tone if you are looking to cut through. The man is a genius.

Wiring is the usual top quality Mojo fare too, for many a mile of confident enhancing motoring.

Band Wanted and Other Bobbins

Well, it has been a while, but as many of you know, I'm not in a position to be guitarifying anything much for the foreseeable.

However, in order to keep my brain in clover, we've gone for a sideways step and 'launched' the Jooky Book Emporium.

I know, bit weird, but there we are.

Anyway, one of the books 'A Man Called Doris: The Minging Defective' is searching for a house band at the moment - so if you play in an originals band and would like to feature in six books - check it out Here.

Other than that, not a lot to report

One For The Long Tenon Nerds

Well, I mentioned the other new project was to be a Les Paul Jr stylee piece of fun, so here it is.

The working of the wood is again by the uber talented Grahame Pollard, and rather lovely it is too and light as feather, if the feather was a similar size and made of mahogany.

From here we're going for a stupendously groovy Violet Chameleon nitro finish, a Mojo P90 and wiring loom, Sperzel Trim Lok tuners, Hipshot wraparound bridge..la di daaa.

This will be The Violent Chameleon One (see what I did there?) and will be coming one day soonish probably maybe.

Oh, and I'm keeping this one - it's mine I tell you, mine all mine...

p.s. For the tenon nerds, check out the length of that baby.. Eh, long eh, innit..etc.

What's In the Box?

Well, I have a couple of new projects on the cards which I haven't mentioned and lucky for me (and whoever so shall end up with them) the bodies and necks have been made by the rather brilliant UK luthier type Graeme Pollard.

First up then is a stunning Jazzmaster as you can see, which is going to get a stunning sparkly purple nitro finish, along with a gold leaf smothered scratchplate, Mojo pickups and wiring, Fender AVRI tremolo, Staytrem arm and bridge with Sperzel Trimlok tuners to keep life tidy and predictible.

This is a Jooky Custom for DrBob of Rob's Hot Rod Guitar fame, so I am doubly blessed...

It will be know as The Schrödinger One, coming one day soonish probably.

As for the other, well I'll tell you about that tomorrow methinks.

It's Olde, It's Golde

Well, as you probably guessed if you were vaguely interested, not too much is happening here in Jookyland at the moment, but one thing I have done that needed some doing is to start to finish the finish on the luxurious Olde Golde One.

Shonky fotos apart, there is real gold in them there hills and sparkly and sparky it be.

The neck is pretty impressive too, star spangled even, which is twice as nice.

From here I'm thinking a pair of Mojo's finest Mosrite stylee Jazzmaster pickups, Staytrem bridge, Fender AVRI Tremolo, Sperzel tuners and a measure of lurvve.

Que cera, whatever will be Edie, ciao bella baby

Sold: The Klondike Gold Rush One

The Klondike Gold Rush One is a rather stunning alder bodied La Cabronita telecaster.
From the top it has the coolest looking Mother of Jooky finish yet, a gorgeous USACG maple neck and a few more tricks to boot. Sperzel tuners, Hipshot Hardtail Bridge, it just goes on and on and on and then on a bit more.

The pickups are a stunning pair of Mojo Pickups Foiltron pickups, with an amazing sound based on the old Teisco Gold Foil Pickups.

These give beautiful cleans but still take the paper off the wall without blinking. Wiring is the usual top quality Mojo fare too, for many a mile of confident enhancing motoring.
